Until recently, the only viable option for replacing a missing tooth was the implementation of a dental bridge. Bridges use neighboring natural teeth to anchor a replacement for a tooth that has been lost due to trauma or decay. Dental bridges are still widely used and may be an excellent treatment option for some patients; but for many, dental implants are now the best option.
Dental implants do what no other tooth-replacement treatment can: replace the entire tooth from root to crown. By replicating the lost tooth’s entire structure, implants provide patients with a stronger, longer-lasting restoration than is often possible. In fact, dental implants can last a lifetime if properly cared for.
The process begins with a careful evaluation by our dentist, to determine whether you are a candidate for dental implants. Patients of any age can receive implants provided they have adequate bone structure and are of good health. The actual implant, called the post, is placed directly into the jaw bone. Over a few months, the bone will fuse with the post in a process called osseointegration, which is where the implant will get its strength. Once this process is complete, we will place a beautiful dental crown to complete your smile.
When finished, implant restorations are completely seamless. They require no special care or maintenance beyond your typical oral hygiene routine, and look and feel just like your surrounding natural teeth.
